All Aboard the Polar Express!

My friend Nicole from OneTwoThreeMathTime.blogspot.com and I worked collaboratively on this FANTASTIC unit. This unit focuses on both literacy and math.

There are 12 activities including 5 literacy and 7 math. The theme surrounds the classic story of The Polar Express. Many of the activities are leveled for grades kindergarten - 2nd grade.

The Polar Express is magical! This is a fun activity that promotes vocabulary and sight word recognition while allowing students to experience the excitement and adventure of the Polar Express. The activity can be completed as a whole group or in stations/centers and may be student-led.

States and Capitals! That's What I Call Fun!

States! States! States!

Would you like your students to learn about the states in the United States of America? I've created an activity to learn about when the states were admitted into statehood. The students must compare a U.S. map with a "Statehood" map and then record the order that each state was admitted into the Union. There is a Statehood Information Quest which helps the student synthesize their chart and map skills into a fun activity (as well as an alphabetizing activity). This activity is geared toward 5th-8th grade students.

I will be working on some more map skills activities this week for younger and older kiddos. Stay tuned!

Halloween Word Families!

Halloween is just around the corner and I know your students will love my newest activity! What a great way to practice word families! This is Halloween Word Family Sort I which includes the it, at, ut, an, and ug word families. Students will match word cards to the correct word family mat and then record those words onto a recording sheet. I hope your students have fun and learn their word families!

Fun in the Sun Phonograms

Do you need a great phonogram activity? This activity is a great one for stations/learning centers!

I have created a wonderful new station activity that focuses on the 70 phonograms. It is a spinner activity with recording sheets. Children must play with partners and think of words for each phonogram they land on. After playing, they record their words on the recording sheet.
